a car to a charity organization is a great way to avoid the hassles of
trying to sell a car, a commendable means to help out a favorite cause
and, in some cases, an opportunity for a tax deduction. Make sure that
your chosen charity accepts vehicle donations and that it is eligible
to provide you with a tax-deductible contribution receipt.
There are several things a charity will do with your donation depending on the condition of the car and the needs of the charity. Some charities will use the car to drive people to appointments, deliver food, or run errands for the organization. Others will have no direct use for your car, in which case they will auction the car and use the money within the organization as they see fit.
Car Recycling: A car recycling program is intended for those who wish to get rid of their used car but don’t necessarily wish to claim the deduction on their tax returns. Nonetheless, they would like to support a good cause.
By recycling, we reduce the amount of pollution and help our environment. Almost every part of the car can be reused: the tires, frame, oil filters and the battery.
- Tires can be recycled and made into various products including fuel, landfill and asphalt.
- Used motor oil can be refined and sold as motor oil or it can be processed for furnace fuel oil.
- Batteries can be returned to their place of purchase which will often send it off to be recycled.
